Okay I wrote a little about explaining your neurochemical quirks to others in this article. But the SAMHSA (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration) Resource Center to Address Discrimination and Stigma (ADS Center) is sponsoring a free training teleconference: “Self-disclosure: The Public and Personal Effects of Revealing Mental Health Problems."
The important stuff:
- Date: Thursday, April 27, 2006
- Time: 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM (Eastern Daylight Time)
- Online Registration: http://www.stopstigma.samhsa.gov/regpage.cfm (and P.S: nothing on the registration form indicates address, so I'm assuming there's no problem with non-U.S. citizens participating.
According to this NAMI site the goals of the teleconference are:
Introduce and gain a better understanding of the interplay between self-disclosure and stigma reduction.
Review findings from a recent study examining self-disclosure in the workplace.
Discuss the public and personal impact of disclosing a mental health problem.
There will be a 60 minute presentation with three speakers and a 30 minute Q&A.
This sounds like a really cool opportunity and its free. I've already signed up.
