Breast Implants are Linked to Increased Suicide Risk

It seems that the biggest risk that women with breast implants face aren't physical. A recent study found that women with breast implants were half as likely to die of breast cancer than the general population and overall they were less likey to die of other causes.

But women with implants had a higher than average risk of suicide.

My first thought was that women seeking implants may have lower self-esteem and self-acceptance issues. But then I read that women with breast implants were more than twice as likely to commit suicide than women who had undergone other cosmetic procedures.

This latest study confirms the breast implant/ suicide risk that other studies have found but at this point no one is sure why this correlation exists. But some experts are recommending that women seeking breast implants be screened for past and present psychiatric disorders.
