Suicide rates in the UK are at their lowest since record keeping began. There is a sustained drop in young men and prisoners committing suicide especially.

And Glasgow research surveying 1,258 teens at the ages of 11, 13, 15, and 17 found that up to 14% of teens had self-harmed but out of those that self-identified with goth culture 53% had self-harmed and 47% had tried to commit suicide. But the study found that the self harm generally occurred years before teens became involved in goth culture. The researchers label the goth subculture as a non-violent and accepting community and hypothesize that troubled teens are drawn to it for the emotional support they can find within that community.
